Megapterygius wakayamaensis | Procreate | 2023

Megapterygius was a mosasaur described at the end of 2023. Distinguishing characteristics were its very long flippers, both sets being longer than the skull, and the first evidence for a dorsal fin in mosasaurs. These may have allowed it to be more capable of the speed and agility needed to chase schools of fish.
